WHY TO RENT A YACHT IN IONIAN ISLANDS

The Ionian Islands are a chain of islands to the west of mainland Greece and are home to one of the Mediterranean’s most popular yacht charter sailing destinations providing the perfect cruising ground for fun, relaxed and varied Greek island sailing.
The Ionian has a wonderful Mediterranean climate with beautiful warm summers and the sun shines here for over 3000 hours a year!

The Ionian sailing area consists of major islands including Kefalonia, Lefkas, Ithaca and Meganisi in the south, Corfu and Paxos in the north as well as the Greek mainland and Gulf of Amvrakia with its own array of beautiful villages, harbours and bays.

The Greeks have always had an anfinty with the sea and nothing they ever built was far from it. Among the sites that should not be missed are those on the mainland, On the northern-west shore the Peloponnese is the remains of Olympia where the Olympic Games were born, while do not forget to visit the island of Ithaca, the home of Odysseus.

WHEN TO GO?

WHAT PERIOD TO RENT A YACHT IN IONIAN ISLANDS

The yacht charter season in Greece starts April and ends in October.

The high season runs from the last week of July till the first half of August where the temperature is around 25°C.

The Ionian Sea is renowned for its perfect sailing conditions with plenty of wind to have a really fun sailing holiday in the sunshine. Typically winds build about lunchtime and drop again at sunset. This means that you can spend the morning sailing gently to a lunch time stop to a secluded bay or pretty village and go for a swim or snorkel, have lunch on board and then have a great sail to your evening destination. The winds are fairly consistent and usually result in a very calm evening with still waters.
Violent storms occur only in winter and overall the weather is pleasant while extreme conditions are rare.

The warmest months are July and August, with average temperatures of 25°C/77°F and day temperatures often well in excess of 30°C/90°F

It is always a smart idea to avoid peak seasons, both in terms of charter cost but also to avoid crowed beaches, marinas and restaurants. The following graphs depict the demand* for yacht holiday in respect with average precipitation and average temperature.
To avoid peak seasons while still having comfort weather conditions, start your trip in June or the second half of August until first half of September.
